Production Blog: Peer Review

Image
Hey blog, I am back with an update! As I mentioned in the previous blog, both the filming and editing portions of my Final Task are finished. What was left was much needed, and this was peer reviewing. I had one of my classmates, Emerson watch over our film and give critiques. Although she was intrigued with the content of the video, the first thing she said was that the transitions were choppy. I had knew this before, it was just very difficult to think I was going to do it seamlessly. However, she did give me a few tricks, or ones that ended up helping her group. The next thing she pointed out was that the music volume was a little low. It is on the lower side of sounds in general, as it gets louder as it continues. But, this will be an easy fix. She also mentioned that some qualities of shots were different than others, not in a good or bad way. Just in one that was asking if we did it intentionally. I told her we did not, and she said it doesn't ruin the overall quality of t

Production Blog: Music

Hey blog, I am back. In the time I was gone, I was doing heavy research on the music that was going to overlay the Final Task. I used many sites, but deciding to stick with what I knew best, once again. This happened to be YouTube. I looked up royalty free music, and the went from there with the genre of the music. In order to fit the basis of our video, I went with spine chilling music, that still allowed room for some light hearted aspects. However, I was stuck between two sounds. One being consistent beat, almost like a clock and the other building suspense in sound as time went on. Although it was a tough decision, my team members and I came to a consensus and chose the second one. My reasoning behind this choice, was simple, it fit the plot of our story better. The first choice was a little to fast paced, meaning that it wouldn't have fit the video. It was also very loud, so it would be hard to both insert and hear sound effects. On the other hand, the second one was quiet,

Editing Blog: Sound Effects

Image
Hey blog, I am currently on day two of editing. As of now, things seem to be running pretty smoothly. The trimming, transitions and imports are complete. Now it is time to upload the sound effects. My job is to go through the film and see where these should be placed. I plan to choose parts that build suspense, jump scare, or provide a sense of comic relief. Under the iMovie app I will highlight these parts and send it to my partners in which they will then be able to upload the actual sound. This will be a process, but once again our editing will make the video ten times better. My task will take the longest because I will have to watch and re-watch the film over and over again. With this I am able to kill two birds with one stone. I have acknowledged that my trimming and transitions aren't perfect. But as I am continuously watching the video, I will fix them to the best of my ability. Time wise, this should take me about an hour. Which also followed my initial goal. I am satisfi

Editing Blog: Title and Transitions

Hey blog, I am back again! Now that I have finished filming the Final task, the difficult part has come, editing! As I have mentioned in many previous blogs, our group decided to dedicate most of this time to editing the film. This is because it is not a strong suit of mine, but luckily with my group members it differs. They are able to help me in certain aspects, and I am able to help them in others. The first task I need to accomplish is trimming the videos. I have chose to edit this on the iPhone camera application. This is what I am most familiar with, so I picked what I know best. Once this is finished , I will upload all of the parts into iMovie. This way I am also able to add transitions on top of the ones I had already done. Together that should take a total of 30 minutes. I have made a plan to do one hour worth of editing a day. Combined, I should finish rather quickly. After looking over these two steps, the last thing I am going to do is import the title and credits. The ti

Filming Blog: Scenes 6 through 12

Today is the big day! You may be asking why? Well, it is time we conquer filming the last 6 scenes of our Final Task. Todays work load is heavy, and the only way I planned to get it done was to minimize break time. As I have learned from our previous sessions, my team barely gets anything done after we decide to rest. So, I have made the executive decision that there will be no breaks. For these scenes, I am equally on the camera as I am off the camera. This being said, I will take any opportunity I get to make sure the filming quality is up to par. I play more than one role in this, so costume changes will be made. Although it is nothing too serious, it will improve the quality of the video. One of my partners recently had surgery on her leg, this was not part of our plan, but provisions were made. The majority of our group has siblings, so they will fill in for her role. Fortunately, it was nothing to big, so no burden is made on their behalf. These scenes do involve much more dialo

Filming Blog: Scene 4 and 5

Hey blog, I'm back again. As you guys know, yesterday I filmed scenes one, two, and three for the Final Task. Well, I am happy to inform you that we continued today, and completed scenes four and five. There was limited time, as our groups schedule did not necessarily align, but I felt it was necessary to do as much as we could, and my team agreed. This is so a lot of the time can be dedicated to editing the film. I believe that today ran over much smoother than yesterday did. This is simply because, adjustments were made, making tasks easier, such as re-positioning the camera or actor. In the end, I do think that I have gotten used to my partners work ethics and how to maximize success with them. Filming wise, I did play a much bigger role in front of the camera today. As I mentioned in the previous blog, I play the role of the mother. Which had many lines, luckily I was able to memorize them. I did struggle with one of the lines, so there were a few takes from that, but I even

Filming Blog: Scenes 1, 2, and 3

Hey blog, I am back and with me is an update. After much consideration and planning, I began filming my final task today. I was assigned two important roles in the video, including the mother and camera man. During the beginning of the shoot, it was not pretty. Many, many takes were needed, as an issue seemed to arise with each take. However, it was addressed quickly, and avoided the next time. One problem that seemed to be very prevalent was the seriousness. Although this is a horror movie, there was supposed to be some lighthearted aspects, but it seemed as if there was never a right time for this. So, the group took my advice. This was to continue to build suspense in the beginning, as only scene 1, 2, and 3 were shot and closer to the end was in which humorous aspects could be added. I will say that behind the camera, is just as difficult as being in front of the camera. Between trying to incorporate specific angles, and hiding the camera so the actor wouldn't look into it, is

Production Blog: The Start of it All

Hey blog, its been quite some time. But, I am back and happy to announce that I have started my final task. With the schedule assembled, it is time to start this project. On my end, I will play a big role behind the camera. So, I have bought and am equipped with a camera, charger, tripod (which I had from the last video), and ring lights. Initially, it was on the more difficult side to plan around sports, vacations, and simple daily routines. Fortunately, I have found a way around that and have been allocated the position of director. Where I will, and have, organized a time and place for each of our filming dates. Being in the filming position is fairly new to me, and honestly nerve racking. However, I am excited to learn some things about the process, which will only help me in the long run. I also was very considerate when choosing my team members, as they will aid in any way possible, if I seem to be struggling. I have established that we will get the majority of the movie filmed
